T-Shirts

So, I found this website called TeeSpring,
seems a Good idea, basically, you sign up, design some TeeShirts, and they promote them.IF you make any sales, you get commision.

Not a bad idea, because it means you can go into selling, TeeShirts and other stuff
without actually having to buy any inventory.

So it's a totally risk free way of trying your hand at Selling.

OK, so I set up an account, designed some T Shirts and other stuff and...

well, to date (Early March 2019) No sales. Early days though, and at least I'm getting
visitors, but I don't reckon I'll be retiring to the Bahamas any time soon :(

Here's a link to my store if you're looking for T-Shirts and other stuff,
If you fancy having a go yourself, simply sign up and get designing.

Privacy Policy

Privacy Policy

Currently I have several apps on the Playstore.

Future revisions / updates of these apps or further apps may utilise writes to and from the SD Card.
At no time will I utilise personal details on your phone in ways which violate your privacy.

How can you be sure.

In reality, you cannot be absolutely sure, for example, it is believed organisations like the NSA can access you private details on your device.
These is therefore a degree of trust involved.

What steps can you take to maximise your Privacy.

While rooting your phone, does remove limits on your phone's capabilities, it also allows
apps you might download (such as mine) access to restricted areas of your phone.

If you are concerned about your privacy, do not Root your phone.

If you have rooted your phone, all is not lost because before access is granted to sensitive areas
the phone will ask you, 'do you wish to grant access rights to this app'
So you remain in control.

There is a slightly increased risk in Rooting your phone.

Another step you can take is to restrict certain rights to any app you download.

Go to settings >> privacy >> apps

And from there you should be able to restrict access to any app to your private data, either by denying rights, or only allowing access after presenting you with an access prompt.

The other way you can protect your privacy, is not to store sensitive information on your phone.

These threats exist with any app, including those, pre installed on a new phone.

Another step you can take is restrict app downloads to known sources only.
This is a setting you can select in Settings > Apps (your phone may vary).

There is always a risk with any application installed, if you have sensitive or important data on your phone that you cannot afford to lose, take the time NOW to look in to backing up your important data.

The android app store Privacy requirements are here :-
https://play.google.com/about/privacy-security/user-data/

None of my Apps will intentionally / deliberately violate your privacy rights,
no Private information from your phone is collected and sent off device.

I will always endeavour to ensure you are always aware of what my Apps are doing
in the background.

The reality is though that many apps, not just mine would be pretty useless without
access to personal information.
Some apps don't need it of course, but if for example, it's a password app, then
generated passwords are going to have to be written to and from your device for future use.
SmS apps are going to need access to your phone functions and very probably
your contacts.
One of the Good things about Android is Apps are 'Sandboxed', IE they are kept seperate from each other and it's difficult for one app to read private data from another.

One way to avoid Virus infections on your PC might seem a little extreme, but have you thought about removing your hard drive.
You could then run a Linux distribution disc, either CD or DVD, this will run Linux entirely in memory, meaning your hard drive can't be infected with computer viruses.
Liberte' or Tails will allow you to do this.

You do need quite a bit of memory to do this of course, around 2 Gb
Any downloads you might want to save can be saved to USB stick.
If this stick is encrypted, then you have very powerful, military grade computer security.

Of course, theoretically, your USB stick might become infected or become a carrier.  But you main PC will remain infection free, since you have no hard drive that can be infected.

Each time you boot your machine, it's a brand new installation, entirely into memory of Linux.
I don't think that doing this is going to be any more troublesome than having to deal with constant threats and infections.

Think about it, if want want help and advice on tightening up your security and privacy, give me a call.

For most people, this level of security might not be warranted, I sometimes use it, but mostly use Windows or Puppy Linux, occasionally I will switch to high security mode.

A linux distribution disc might also be called a live disc or  a live distribution disc.

Next post might be on higher security, anonymous emails.

Thanks for reading.

Hull Data Recovery, PC problems, PC repair, Hull & Beverley

Live in Hull, Got PC problems ?

I might be able to help.

I spent 15 yrs working as a computer programmer for a variety of military and civilian companies.
I specialised in ATE (automated test equipment) writing computer code to test, mainly GSM mobile phone handsets or base station equipment.
I quite often get asked by friends to fix their PC problems and so decided, why not set up a computer repair business,
So here I am.

One of the most common problems I see is advertising, my recommended fix for spam problems like this
is to download and install another browser, I recommend Firefox, Chrome or Opera.
There are others, some of them good too.

After that, I'd download and install Adblock.

Try uninstalling programs you no longer need, these can hog your resources like memory, slowing down your pc.
Look at defragmenting your hard drive, I recommend, Defraggler.
Install CCleaner.

Another thing you can do is install more memory, memory is quite cheap now, you might be able to get 1 or 2 Gigabytes for £5 from Amazon

If you want an alternative, maybe something a bit more secure, I recommend looking at Linux, I use several varieties at home, I have 3 PCs at home, they cost me £20 each.

Another common problem is an old machine that will not boot into windows, that has important data on it, like family photos, or letters etc.
I may be able to recover those by running a Linux Distribution Disc, this will allow me to boot your machine
into the linux operating system.
Don't worry about Windows Passwords, linux will just boot into Linux so no password is necessary.
Yes, if you thought having a Windows password gave you security, it does not.
If you've got data on a machine you'd like to recover, I may be ale to help.
If the machine is completely dead, maybe not, but you never know.
If it goes part way through the boot process then just fails, I might be able to get that data or family photos for you.
Give me a call or send me a text.

Puppy Linux which can be fairly secure, is generally very stable and comes with built in packages like web browsers, office software plus thousands of other apps.
You can do everything except high end gaming on Puppy Linux (not actually true it is possible but...)
Puppy Linux is Great if you have a fairly old machine, it's more efficient on resources than Windows so will
allow you to keep an old machine running you might otherwise have to upgrade or throw out.
Best of all, Puppy Linux is Free, as are most versions of Linux.

Here's a link to a Youtube Puppy Linux Channel

If you are very security concious, three military grade security distributions I sometimes use are, TOR, Tails and Liberte'.

Here's a basic overview of TOR Tails and Liberte'

Probably a bit rusty by now but my chief skillsets are HPVee, C++, Javascript, Visual Basic, Rebol.

Also some experience with Appinventor, Cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin,
I have a good, alround technical and science background.

My rates are very reasonable, and as I'm just setting up will charge only £10 for a fix,
plus any parts.   No fix = no fee.
So, If you are in Hull and have PC problems,

you can text me on 077 926 08430

or email me at hullpcfix@mail.com

Texting is a better way of contacting me.

If you're an employer, I'm also looking for contract work in and around the Hull Area possibly wider.
